Some things don’t last forever, but some things do. Like a good song, or a good book, or a good memory you can take out and unfold in your darkest times, pressing down on the corners and peering in close, hoping you still recognize the person you see there.
No Face Penny: College: A few things you will learn ›
- Your friends will change a lot over the next four years. Let them.
- Call someone you love back home a few times a week, even if just for a few minutes.
- In college more than ever before, songs will attach themselves to memories. Every month or two, make a mix CD, iTunes playlist, whatever -…
This sentence has five words. Here are five more words. Five-word sentences are fine. But several together become monotonous. Listen to what is happening. The writing is getting boring. The sound of it drones. It’s like a stuck record. The ear demands some variety. Now listen. I vary the sentence length, and I create music. Music. The writing sings. It has a pleasant rhythm, a lilt, a harmony. I use short sentences. And I use sentences of medium length. And sometimes, when I am certain the reader is rested, I will engage him with a sentence of considerable length, a sentence that burns with energy and builds with all the impetus of a crescendo, the roll of the drums, the crash of the cymbals—sounds that say listen to this, it is important.

Without goals, you will end up going nowhere, or, you will end up following someone else’s map! Develop your map today - set your goals and focus.
Life will break you. Nobody can protect you from that, and living alone won’t either, for solitude will also break you with its yearning. You have to love. You have to feel. It is the reason you are here on earth. You are here to risk your heart. You are here to be swallowed up. And when it happens that you are broken, or betrayed, or left, or hurt, or death brushes near, let yourself sit by an apple tree and listen to the apples falling all around you in heaps, wasting their sweetness. Tell yourself you tasted as many as you could.

Don’t Leave Me (Ne Me Quitte Pas) - Regina Spektor
Down in Bowery
They lose their ballads and their lipped-mouths in the night
And stumbling through the street they say:
“Sir, do you got a light?
And if you do, then you’re my friend
And if you don’t, then you’re my foe
And if you are a deity of any sort
Then please don’t go!”Ne me quitte pas, mon chere
Down on Lexington they walk
In new shoes stuck to aging feet
And close their eyes and open
And not recognize the aging street
And think about how things were right
When they were young and veins were tight
And if you are the ghost of Christmas past
Then won’t you stay the night?new regina spektor! by new I mean “an old song pulled from her archives and stuck on her upcoming album” - exciting still and I love it so much :’)
The young need discipline and a full bookcase.

”I just kind of opened up and said, «I feel like a rag doll. I have hair and makeup people coming to my house every day and putting me in new, uncomfortable, weird dresses and expensive shoes, and I just shut down and raise my arms up for them to get the dress on, and pout my lips when they need to put the lipstick on». ”

There is only one success… to be able to spend your life in your own way, and not to give others absurd maddening claims upon it.
